Claire and Andrew’s San Antonio engagement session was perfect. If you know me personally or have gotten to know me through my blog or Facebook, you know how I feel with this city. It’s hard for me to be pleased with the look of it here when all I want is the look of the Pacific Northwest. However, maybe it was the overcast or maybe it was the fact that Andrew, Claire, and I connected really well, but I’m stoked about these photos. I felt I captured the beauty of San Antonio and the beautiful love between this cute couple.
I hear a lot of people who contact me say, “We’re not photogenic”, but what I tell everyone is that connection is key to getting great photos. So, I felt that I would share how I conduct my engagement sessions. First off, meetings and hangouts to prepare for the shoot is pretty important. Not only does it help with the session going smoothly, but in a way it helps break the ice with each other. I want my couples to be completely comfortable with me. After we’ve planned the the day, time, and location, I let them know I’m sending them home with homework. I have them write a small little love note to each other and let them know at any point during the shoot, I’m going to ask them to read it to each other. This helps them remember why they are there and allows them to loosen up.
The day of the shoot, I meet at their place a little early so that we have time to make sure outfits look great and just chit chat. Afterwards, we all ride to the location to together. And from there, we just hang out and have fun. And as described above, at some random point during the shoot I’ll ask them if they brought their homework, so that I can step away to give them a few minutes to each other.
I’d say the best part of this whole session was going back to their place to play Rock Em Sock Em Robots. Lol. I feel like such a dork, but I guess it was cause I always wanted them as a kid. And with the age of 30 about to hit me in a few weeks, I feel like I need to find any excuse to not act my age. Haha.
