Just like every couple I get to work with, Emily and Jimmy are two wonderful, kind, fun, loving, and caring people. They’re a blast to hang around with. Plus… They’re cat people! And cat people are my kinda people.
Before I had booked my previous Portland wedding, Emily and Jimmy were the very first couple who inquired about having me fly up there to photograph their wedding. So, I was incredibly humbled that even with all the talent up in Oregon, they wanted this Texan photographer to be a part of their wedding.
A few months prior, when I was up there for Matt and Diana’s Wedding, I was able to meet up with Emily and Jimmy in person and photograph their couple’s session. One of my favorite things when working with couples who are miles away from me, is finally being able to hug them in person.
I feel I don’t need to say much about how much fun their wedding was, because the photos below speak for themselves.
What was the inspiration behind your choice of venue, colors, attire, music, etc?
Jimmy and I love wine.
Probably too much….when we moved to Portland, this was one of the first wineries we visited and we fell in love with it. The architecture of Sokol Blosser is super modern, and looks beautiful and romantic with the backdrop of a vineyard. When we visited, we both kind of just decided on the spot that we wanted to get married there. We knew we wanted a winery wedding, because we wanted wine and the outdoors to be incorporated into our special day, and we knew we wanted a smaller celebration because we wanted to be able to spend quality time with our guests all day long.
Our music is a reflection of our musical tastes together.
We have been to plenty of weddings where the music is fun, but we wanted ours to be a bit different than we have experienced. We hired a vinyl DJ to play some great soul, funk, and 80s.
And food is pretty much our favorite thing on the planet, so we knew we wanted to put a lot of thought and investment into making sure everyone loves it. Most of our guests came from out of town, and have never been to Portland. We wanted our caterer to highlight the best of local NW cuisine, so everyone can enjoy the things we have great access to! Our caterer puts so much care and thought into her ingredients, sourcing locally and sustainably, so we were really excited to share it with everyone.
