8 Reasons Why A Boudoir Session Might Be Right For You

For Clients

Every time someone inquires about a boudoir session, one of the most important questions I like to ask them is why they’re considering doing a boudoir session. Because my photography style is geared towards authenticity, it’s important for me to understand the ‘why’ for each individual. There is so much vulnerability that goes with doing a boudoir session, so I always want to make sure it’s a reflection of each person’s why.

Here’s a list I compiled from previous people I’ve photographed and their reason for wanting to do a boudoir session. If you’ve been considering doing a session, but not sure if it would be right for you or why you would even do one, maybe this list will help.

1) You’ve thought about doing boudoir, but have been timid in the past.

This is a common thing people tell me. I’ve been told there’s always a bit of hesitation in their past, but it wasn’t until seeing my laid-back style of boudoir that they decided to actually do a session.

2) You’re getting married and seeking a special treat the two of you will treasure.

Being that I’ve been a wedding photographer since 2012, I occasionally get people who want to give their significant other something special on their wedding day. This also isn’t just limited to one person, it can be a session you both do as a couple.

3) You went through a breakup and want a reminder of how fierce you are.

On the flip side, I’ve also had people do a boudoir session because they had just gone through a breakup or divorce and wanted to do something for themself.

4) You’re celebrating a milestone of any kind.

This could be anywhere from celebrating an anniversary with your partner, tackling a mental health issue, reaching a physical health goal, or just realizing how amazing you truly are. I’ve even had someone do a session before their “mommy makeover” and they described their session as a good breakup conversation.

5) You’re pregnant and want photos to document this time of your life.

Some women want to document the journey and beauty of their body during their pregnancy.

6) You believe subtle and sensual sexiness speaks volumes.

I describe these sessions as boudoir because it’s what most people think of when Googling. However, I view the sessions as more of intimate portraiture. Although I am a sex positive person, the boudoir photos I help you create are nothing sexual or erotic in nature. Simply just sensual photos of you as you are.

7) You love dark and moody photography.

My style of photography and the light I look for is dark and moody. I love the rawness of black and white and equally love warm earth tones for color photos. It’s how I genuinely see the world.

8) You equate feeling sexy and free with feeling comfortable and confident.

All in all, this is something I believe in. I think these things go together or at least one of the other will help you feel the other feeling. It’s important to take the time to appreciate yourself, who you are, and where you are in life.

If any of these resonate with you, a boudoir session might be something to consider. Remember that although boudoir photos can be a gift you give to others, more importantly, it’s a gift you give to yourself. Capturing this special season in your life will serve as a keepsake for you to cherish for years to come.
